Overview
Regions
Lamu
Lamu town is a living throwback to the Swahili culture that once dominated the entire Indian Ocean coast. The winding streets, carved woods and traditional houses evoke the everyday sights and sounds of another age.
Malindi & Islands
Malindi is all about the beach, and the coral reefs of the nearby Malindi Marine National Park offer good snorkelling and diving.
Mombasa
Mombasa is the largest city on the Kenyan coast and also the largest coastal port in East Africa. Traders have been coming here since at least the 12th century, and during its bloody history Mombasa changed hands dozens of times between the Arab-Swahilis, Portuguese, Omanis and finally the British.

Climate Guide
The East Africa coast has a tropical climate but the climate can vary a bit between the southern part of Tanzania and the northern Kenya coast. As a general rule the coast enjoys high temperatures year round with highs in the early 30's and lows at around 22 degrees. The sunshine hours average 8 hours per day year round but in the summer months the humidity is high. However, the sea breeze generally ensures pleasant and comfortable conditions. The water temperature seldom falls below 26°C and conditions are therefore ideal for swimming, diving, snorkelling and water sports most of the year. April and May generally experience the most rainfall.
Health & Vaccinations
We recommend that you are up to date with all of the usual vaccinations - Typhoid, Polio, Hepatitis A & B, Tetanus and Rabies. In addition a course of malaria prophylaxis is required. You will also need a Yellow Fever vaccination if visiting a Yellow Fever area before visiting the coast (for example if coming from Tanzania on a two-centre itinerary). Please contact your local GP for full advice at least 3-4 weeks before travel.
Passport & Visa
British passport holders must be in possession of a full 10-year passport and must have at least 6 months validity beyond the date of the return journey. In addition you will need to have a minimum of 2 consecutive blank pages in your passport. British passport holders require a visa that can be obtained upon arrival into Kenya and / or Tanzania. The cost of this is currently USD $50 per person for each destination (or both).
