Itinerary
11 NIGHTS / 12 DAYS (excluding international flights)
Day 1 – Kalahari Desert - 3 nights - Camp. Full Board
On arrival in Maun you will be met and shown onto your light aircraft for the flight to Nxai Pan, for 3 nights at Kwando Nxai Pan Camp in a twin/double tent on a full board basis, inclusive of all game drive activities, locally branded drinks and laundry.
Wedged between the Okavango Delta, Botswana’s melting pot of life and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve which is home to a never-ending list of wildlife is the Nxai Pan Camp, part of the Kwando Safari Group renowned for providing an authentic insight into Botswana, the people and the rich culture in which it gladly holds.
Kwando Camps have always been known to have a great ideology of family safaris that appeal to all ages and really gives you the best experience for your money, which doesn't involve such things as tent décor but on the safari itself, game drives and nature walks that truly appreciate the surroundings of one of the most rare yet fragile ecosystems in the world. You’ll leave knowing the true Botswana so to speak.
Day 4 – Kwando Concession, Northern Okavango - 3 nights - Kwando Lagoon Camp. Full Board
After a game activity and breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip to continue on your journey by light aircraft to Kwando Lagoon Camp, for 3 nights in a twin/double tent on a full board basis, inclusive of all game drive activities, locally branded drinks and laundry.
The area incorporates part of the Linyanti wetlands, huge tracts of Mopane forest and vast open plains. This variety of natural habitat makes Kwando unique, drawing wildlife and bird life in abundance as herds of elephant and buffalo roam the plains adjoining the Kwando River, whilst lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and sable are frequently sighted. For the sixth consecutive year wild dogs have denned near Lagoon camp thus providing guests with excellent sightings.
Day 7 – Kwara Concession, Moremi - 3 nights - Kwando Kwara Camp. Full Board
After a game activity and breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip to continue on your journey via light aircraft to Kwando Kwara Camp for 3 nights in a twin/double tent on a full board basis, inclusive of all game drive activities, locally branded drinks and laundry.
The attraction of the Kwara concession is its range of activities in an area of intricate channels, rivers, lagoons, dramatic palm-fringed islands, reed beds, floating grasses and papyrus that form a natural wilderness like no other. The camps offer year-round powerboat trips due to the presence of permanent water, whilst mokoro excursions, for which the Okavango Delta is famous, are also a year-round activity.Water experiences combined with the ability to drive both off-road and at night add to the uniqueness of Kwara. Experience the peace and tranquillity of gliding silently through the Delta waters in the early morning and feel the pulse and excitement of a lion hunt at night.
Whilst on an island walk with an armed guide you will learn about their deep beliefs and knowledge of the intricacies of nature. The birds of the Delta are both colourful and melodious and the guides will reveal them to you from close range. Godikwe Lagoon is one of the largest bird breeding colonies in Botswana. From September to December thousands of birds and their young may be viewed in their nesting grounds from Kwara’s double-decker pontoon boat. Fishing for bream, catfish and pike is also excellent.
Day 10 – Okavango Delta - 2 nights - Xakanaxa Camp. Full Board
After a game activity and breakfast you will be transferred via a leisurely boat cruise to Xakanaxa Camp for 2 nights in a twin/double tent on a full board basis, inclusive of all game drive activities, locally branded drinks and laundry.
Situated on the Xakanaxa Lagoon, where boat and mokoro (dug-out canoe) trips explore the sinuous channels and floodplains of the Delta, one of Africa’s greatest natural wonders. Towering riverine forests, open savannah, seasonal floodplains, permanent lagoons, rivers and the intricate channels of the Okavango Delta surround the camp and make for a varied habitat that ensures the safari traveller the opportunity to experience year – round boating and mokoro trips as well as extensive game drives.
Birding is quite spectacular, as huge numbers of breeding storks and herons are attracted to the world-famous heronries which lie to the north of the lodge.
Day 12 – Return
After breakfast you will be transferred to Maun Airport where the itinerary terminates.
