Zebra Plains is Sanctuary’s first Walking Safari Camp and lies on the confluence of the Luangwa and Chibembe Rivers, among the verdant game reserve of the South Luangwa National Park. This camp is the first true luxury walking safari camp in Zambia’s legendary South Luangwa and gives the opportunity to explore the sights and sounds of a safari in the most exciting way possible, whilst retaining a traditional luxurious experience.

Access to this unique camp is by air from the main gateways of Lusaka & Livingstone to Mfuwe Airstrip. The transfer time from the airstrip to the camp is then approximately 5 hours in 4x4 vehicles, consisting of a 2 hour road journey from Mfuwe Airstrip to the permanent properties of Sanctuary Puku Ridge Camp or Sanctuary Chichele Presidential Lodge, followed by a 3 hour journey to Sanctuary Zebra Plains Camp.

Sanctuary Zebra Plains offers four traditional tents (2 doubles and 2 twins) but accommodates a maximum of six guests. All tents have comfortable beds, mosquito nets, en suite facilities such as flush toilets and al fresco showers with water mixed to the guest’s preferred temperature. The camp plays host to a bar and small library, with gourmet meals served in the open with specially selected vantage points.

The camp is dedicated to walking safaris, giving guests the chance to explore this vast and untamed land by foot. Large populations of zebra, elephant, buffalo, crocodile and various bird species reaching into the hundreds makes this a diverse and truly remote part of Africa, a hotspot for an unforgettable safari.

This is a seasonal camp which is open annually from 01 June to 31 October. We also suggest that guests begin their discovery of this magnificent reserve with a stay at Sanctuary Puku Ridge Camp or Sanctuary Chichele Presidential Lodge before departing for Sanctuary Zebra Plains.
