Overview

Merville Beach is a 3-star Superior hotel situated in the north of the island, near the seaside village of Grand Baie. Formerly a fishermen village, this place has since turned into one of the trendiest places in Mauritius and is often referred to as the local Riviera. The hotel is located right in front of a marvellous stretch of pristine sandy beach and also possesses a charming tropical garden. It’s no secret that the region is one the sunniest parts of the island, enjoying a great climate year-round.

The friendly atmosphere that prevails throughout the hotel matches the décor of the hotel, where natural materials abound: cane thatches, bamboo, ravenala, raffia and basaltic rock. The artfully decorated living room offers a wonderful view over the lagoon whilst the magnificent fine, sandy beach, which fronts the hotel, provides an ideal excuse for long walks at sunset or in the moonlight.

The rooms and chalets, most with dressed stonewalls and thatched roofs, are spread out through lush, tropical gardens, with an architecture style that gives the hotel a harmonious feel, an air of comfort and authenticity. Several different kinds of accommodation are available and all of the rooms are decorated in cheerful, sunny colours and have large beds as well as comfortable armchairs or settees.

The property features a choice of dining and drinking venues. La Terrasse Restaurant, with its terrace, lies surrounded by lush, tropical gardens overlooking the swimming pool and with wonderful views out over the whole Bay. The ambience is one of serene tranquillity. The restaurant has a reputation for exotic cuisine, inspired by Chinese, Creole and French traditions.

Le Badamier Bar feels comfortable and relaxing and sits under a traditional thatched roof where guests can admire the breathtaking view of the turquoise lagoon, whilst sampling colourful cocktails, local drinks or a range of international beverages. The Bar also provides a beach service during daylight hours. The resident band entertains guests every evening with a great variety of international and local favourites. Evening entertainment also includes Sega nights, featuring colourful Mauritian dances and songs, and cabaret shows.

The hotel enjoys the privacy of a secluded beach of dazzling white sands bordering the crystal-clear waters of the lagoon. The large swimming pool, with a paddling pool for young children, is surrounded by an inviting terrace, where guests can relax under the shade of beach umbrellas and coconut trees.

Activities at the property include water-skiing, windsurfing, lasers, pedal boats, kayaks (single and double), snorkelling, glass bottom boat rides, floodlit tennis court, volley-ball, football pitch and gym. Mountain bikes, big game fishing, speedboat trips, catamaran cruises and scuba-diving (including tuition and courses) are also available at additional cost. There is also a golf course 15-minutes drive from the hotel.

Conceived with care and extreme attention to detail, the Escape Spa is a private retreat hidden away in the lush gardens. Enjoy the tranquility of the relaxation area which hosts the very best views of the lagoon. Discover a world where stress does not exist, lie back and absorb the amazing view of the lagoon, as you receive your spa treatments. Be cocooned, in a relaxed atmosphere, while facing a wonderful sunset on the crystal clear lagoon.
