Kinondo Kwetu
Key Facts
Overview
Kinondo Kwetu is a small, all-inclusive luxury resort owned and operated by a Swedish family and beyond the accommodations, food, and amenities you would expect, it also offers another kind of luxury. We are talking about the luxury of peace and quiet, of freedom and rest. No pumping music at the pools, no noise from crowds at the bar, no jostling for space on the beach, no roaming trinket sellers. Kinondo Kwetu is a home, not an entertainment centre.
Kinondo Kwetu is situated on the south coast of Kenya, 1½ hours south from Mombasa, on the beach of the Indian Ocean. With room for no more than 38 guests, you will always find your own private spot at Kinondo Kwetu, which makes it a very special hideaway for honeymooners. It is also the perfect place to gather family or friends for a private celebration or wedding. On the grounds, you find two pools, one of them with a depth that allows training for PADI diving certificate, three horses, and a tennis court. Kinondo Kwetu’s dhow and outriggers are out on the water, waiting to take you sailing.
Every room and cottage has its own personalized character, as it is furnished and decorated with Swahili culture handicraft and antiquities. All double rooms are equipped with king size beds and all rooms with fans and mosquito nets. there are also combinations of rooms and a house that can be utilised for families or small groups travelling together.
There is plenty of quiet, beautiful spots where you can retire to spend time with yourself or in company - in the library or in one of the living rooms; outside, in one of the water towers, where you can watch the sun set over the mountains; on a cliff by the sea; or in any of the secluded spots you find in the area.
Kinondo Kwetu is renowned for its cuisine, which benefits from locally produced fruits and vegetables. Three-course lunches and dinners are served al fresco, with fresh fish and seafood being natural favourites.
Although Kinondo Kwetu is the ideal place for simply doing nothing at all, it offers exciting possibilities for all adventurers big and small. The vast East African reef is there for you to explore, be it scuba diving, snorkelling, or by boat. Try deep-sea fishing or learn kite boarding, an exhilarating and eco-friendly sport perfectly suited for the southern coast of Kenya. There is also a PADI center, so if you are thinking of getting a diving certificate, do it at Kinondo Kwetu. For sailing enthusiasts they have small Kenyan outriggers which will give you lots of fun. Alternatively enjoy a cruise on one of the traditional dhows or go horseback riding on the beach. They also arrange excursions along the coast to nearby islands and up a river looking for crocodiles. For golfers there is an 18-hole course only 15 minutes away, where you can rent clubs.
The lodge has a Finnish sauna and every night towards sunset it is fired up. Kinondo Kwetu offers various means of caring for your body and soul with a range of spa treatments including massage, facial treatments, manicure and pedicure. You can enjoy a massage and body treatment to the soothing sound of the Indian Ocean. They will also guide you to a “secret” serene spot on a cliff overlooking the sea where you can meditate and do your yoga.
Even the big pool is designed for tranquillity: not a hard rectangle but a giant three-leaf clover; swim the perimeter and you have covered a hundred metres.
