Jetwing Lighthouse
Key Facts
Overview
Situated on the south western coast of Sri Lanka, in the ancient Dutch outpost of Galle, stands Jetwing Lighthouse, a beacon of light in the dark. The property is the last unique architectural triumph of Sri Lanka’s iconic genius, Geoffrey Bawa. Elegant, and yet understated, this boutique hotel will captivate you with its charm and unparalleled wonder.
Jetwing Lighthouse has always been renowned for its splendid designs, which draw in discerning guests, with the quintessential Sri Lankan antiquities and dashes of minimalistic modernity. This is a unique hotel in the unique city of Galle - the two just seem to go hand-in-hand.
With such a high standard to live up to, it is no wonder they only offer the best in accommodation here. Sixty deluxe rooms, with Dutch teak furnishings, king sized beds and an old world charm, all come equipped with the standard modern amenities including individual temperature controlled air-conditioning and a ceiling fan, direct dial telephone, a large LED TV with cable channels, and large private balconies that provide the perfect spot to watch the glorious setting sun.
The themed suites at the Lighthouse are in a level of their own. The Fa-Hsien Suite takes you back to the ancient dynasties of China with fine vases and traditional artworks; the Ibn Battuta Suite will take you to the vibrancy of Morocco with its rich colours, décor and furniture; whilst the Speilbergen Suite offers a rich Dutch-Colonial heritage and distinctive tastes. All Suites have oversized bedrooms, king-sized beds, Jacuzzi and separate lounge.
Epitomising its mix in cultures, the dining is a classic blend of cuisine. Experience wonderful seafood at the Cinnamon Room Restaurant, along with fabled fondues; buffets and other light snacks can be found at the Cardamon Café; the Anchor Bar & Grill exudes an informal atmosphere and offers snacking options throughout the day; whilst the Coat of Arms Bar is that perfect place to unwind with a drink at hand whilst overlooking the ever-warm Laccadive Sea.
Facilities at the hotel include a fully equipped gym with an expert personal trainer, two expansive swimming pools, a kids pool, a floodlit tennis court, squash court, table tennis and a pool table. Yoga and meditation are also available for those who prefer more sedate pursuits.
Set away from the main hotel is the beautifully designed Spa, which is surrounded by palms and faces its own pool. The Spa offers treatments ranging from a simple massage to a full programme of specialised healing.
