Heritance Kandalama Hotel
Key Facts
Overview
The Heritance Kandalama is a luxury hotel in a spellbinding setting – truly an architectural tour de force from Sri Lanka’s premier architect, Geoffrey Bawa. Located 160km from Sri Lanka’s economic capital of Colombo, and just a few minutes away from the ancient town of Dambulla, the Heritance Kandalama is an oasis of luxury and relaxation.
The hotel is unobtrusive on the outside but large and deeply spacious within – testament to the brilliant design. Blending into the environs, the impact has been minimised to degree highly unusual in a large hotel. The structure was designed so as not to affect the water flow of this natural basin. It was these and other touches which led to its being deservedly awarded a ‘Green Globe Award’ for environmental sustainability in 1999, the first in Sri Lanka.
Inside, a wonderful infinity pool calls out across the blue reservoir and beautiful wood-finished rooms have views of water, jungle and, in the distance, the magnificent Sigiriya Rock. Leaving your balcony, with its views and its monkeys, there are two more pools, a choice of restaurants, stylish bar areas and various facilities for the sporting minded. The food is first class and the service friendly and very efficient.
The hotel has 152 timber paneled and designer decorated rooms & suites, ranging from Superior to the ultra luxurious Royal Suite. You have a choice of bathrooms fitted with rain showers, bathtubs or Jacuzzi's. The glass fronted bathrooms make you feel as if you are a part of the picturesque natural landscape outside your windows. The rooms are fully equipped with energy efficient air conditioning, TVs with satellite and local channels, a comprehensive mini bar, safes and coffee / tea making equipment. The property has an number of suites, which are truly world-class, although we also recommend the Deluxe Rooms in the Sigiriya Wing as they have wonderful views.
The Six Senses Spa belongs to a chain of 24 award-winning, world renowned spas. Its philosophy is based on balancing a pyramid of the five senses and they offer therapy packages to totally rejuvenate your mind, body and soul.
The location of the hotel, near Dambulla, puts it right at the heart of Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle, making it convenient for visits to the magnificent ancient city of Anuradhapura as well as Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya and a host of other intriguing historical sites. The National Parks of Minneriya, Kandulla and Wasgomuwa are also easily accessible.
A fantastic option for guests is the spectacular Hot Air Balloon flights that leave from the grounds below the hotel every morning between October and May.
