Deception Valley Lodge is a luxury lodge located in Botswana's vast and fascinating Kalahari Desert, close to the famous Okavango Delta. When outsiders think of the Kalahari, the image they generally have is the red sands of the towering dunes in the southern part of the desert. However, the locals here know it as a vast flatland of spectacular thunder-storms, old-fashioned villages full of friendly folk, and when the rain comes, blizzards of butterflies.

At Deception Valley Lodge you can experience the Kalahari first-hand with the local Bushman at hand to share their knowledge and experiences. You can also enjoy some of the most prolific bird life or do some star gazing at night.

What makes Deception Valley Lodge unique is the rare opportunity to meet and explore this remarkable environment with the Bushman guides of the San people, one of the oldest cultures in Africa. Explore the bush on foot, while your guide teaches you their hunting and survival skills and the culture and crafts of the San people, who over the centuries have adapted their lives to survive in the most inhospitable environment of them all.

Deception Valley Lodge accommodates up to sixteen people in extremely comfortable rooms set in vibrant and rustic coloured interiors. Each of the rooms stand separately, on stilts connected to the main lodge by wooden walkways.

The lodge has an ethnic African theme and was built to fit into the surrounding bush without altering, damaging or detracting from its ambience and colour. The lodge is private and restful and you can relax here in total luxury. Attention has been given to every detail ensuring you a completely different experience, in the arid Kalahari bush that literally stretches for miles.

The main complex boasts a dining room, lounge and bar area decorated in warm desert colours, making use of Bushmen and other African artifacts. From the deck you can view activities at the nearby water hole. A curio shop and small library forms part of the complex. A swimming pool is situated close to the main complex. Guests can enjoy a starlit dinner in the boma around a roaring fire.

In addition to the Bushman activities, guests can participate in safaris in open 4X4 vehicles (including night drives to explore the nocturnal species), professionally guided walks, bird watching from the deck at the main lodge or in a hide at one of the water holes, and sundowners whilst enjoying the amazing Kalahari sunsets.
