Casa Colombo
Key Facts
Overview
Casa Colombo is a retro-chic hotel that blends a contemporary designer style with the charms of a magnificent 200 year-old Moorish mansion. Built by one of the wealthiest Indian trading families at the time, the mansion is adorned with acres of Italian and Indian mosaic floors, carved arches, moulded ceilings and Moorish styled balconies, and is one of the few remaining treasures of its era.
The property is located in the heart of Colombo’s business district. However it is neatly cosseted away from the busy Galle Road by its own cul de sac and is a gated and very private hotel.
With just 12 designer suites, Casa Colombo’s style is a tonic for the senses and a breath of fresh air. The suites are fitted with WiFi, HiFi and all the accoutrements of a personal office and are just perfect for those on the go. For the less inclined, it offers a quiet escape, secluded from the intrusions of the city. Nothing exceeds luxury like excess; the suites exude space and range from 45m2 to 90m2. Each suite is unique as they were created from within the old house, and therefore, no two suites are the same shape or dimension. Each has its own distinct colour hues, layout and character. Yet all suites offer the finest in comfort and conveniences with every piece of furniture, décor, fabric and lighting having been custom designed in Sri Lanka. Therefore the exclusive style of Casa Colombo cannot be seen or found anywhere else in the world.
The property, although boutique, also offers three fabulous eateries: HVN is located in the grand hall of the mansion and is a stylish restaurant with gold carved ceilings, an antique fan that spans 18 feet, organza glass tables and a fresco of local god’s meditating in the clouds. The menu features an eclectic fusion of local Cuisine and Flavors prepared by renowned chefs and the food and atmosphere is nothing less than heavenly. Za Za is an outdoor restaurant surrounded by water and overlooks the magnificent façade of the mansion. Decorated with egg-shaped chairs and cracked glass tables, this outdoor eaterie offers a relaxed dining experience that brings together local flavours and global lounge music to create an epicurean dining experience. T Republic is yet another airy outdoor venue and is located on the lawn facing the front façade of the mansion. For the ultimate dining experience you could also opt to enjoy a private dining experience at Champagne and Sky, a very special location at the very top of the building.
Probably the first Pink Pool in the world, the poolside is a delight for the senses. It has 8 glass sun beds, 3 canopied day beds and chrome elephants wading the shallow pool. The day beds come complete with two music selectors and headphones and a telephone for each.
You can also relax, revive and rejuvenate your mind and body and indulge in traditional Sri Lankan Spa Treatments at Spa Ceylon. Enjoy a range of treasured spa rituals that will hydrate, treat, purify, sooth and balance your body, mind and soul, all derived from the ancient relaxation, rejuvenation and healing practices of Ayurveda.
The hotel also offers 24-Hour room service and a comfortable library.
