Quilalea Island is located in a World Wildlife Fund-endorsed marine reserve in Mozambique’s Quirimbas Archipelago. The Quirimbas National Park is a nursing area for nesting green and hawks beak turtles; and where humpback whales take shelter with their calves before migrating to southern waters.

The nine 60 m² coral-rock thatched villas have large, private teak viewing decks with panoramic sea-views. In-room luxuries include air-conditioning, an extensive range of guest amenities and an antique sea-view shower functioning on an eco-friendly, desalinated water system. Guests have a choice of bath robes or authentic East African kikoi-wraps to lounge in or cover up their swimwear.

Quilalea’s Karma Salaama massage pavilion is built into natural rock above the beach where the gentle, rhythmic wave sounds hypnotize guests into a blissful state of mind. The seaside massage bed has been described as ‘the best massage bed in the world’.

In addition to the range of water sports activities, there are also excellent diving and game fishing facilities. Black-tip and white-tip sharks, blue-spotted stingray and electric ray are common. Rarer Zambezi sharks, hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks and manta rays have also been sighted.

By exploring the commercially untouched nearby islands of Sencar, Quirimba and Ibo, guests can get a taste of the region’s rich Portuguese and Arabian history.
