Overview
The word safari is a Masai word meaning "to journey" and there are many forms of safari available. Below we highlight some of the main safaris that we offer and to the right we highlight by country where it is best to undertake these safari options. Of course the time of the year that you travel can also determine what safaris are available across different countries and therefore we suggest that you contact us to discuss your requirements.
GAME DRIVES - The most common method of undertaking a safari is by safari vehicle on what is typically classed as a game drive. Vehicles used for game drives vary by region and terrain but we generally uses camps and lodges that use 4x4 Land Rovers or Land Cruisers to ensure a great viewing experience and safety etc. Most game drives are undertaken early morning and late afternoon / evening as this is the time of the day that most animals are active - either predators seeking prey or the prey being alert for the predators! In certain areas game drives can be an all-day adventure, whilst night game drives are also offered from certain camps and lodges - generally found in private concession areas.
WALKING SAFARIS - Many camps and lodges offer the opportunity to undertake a game walk escorted by expert guides and these can vary from an hour to a few hours and allow you to get close to nature and appreciate the smaller things found in the bush plus the sounds and smells of Africa. However, a real walking safari is one that takes you from camp to camp, spending the day with your knowledgeable guides as you trek across the plains seeking game and exploring the bush. In general you would walk approximately 20km's per day and stay each night in comfortable but rustic bushcamps. Walking safaris can vary from an overnight stop at one camp to 6 or 7 nights across a number of camps.
BIRDING SAFARIS - For bird enthusiasts we can arrange safaris into areas rich with birdlife and in the company of highly skilled and trained ornithologists. Birding safaris are generally undertaken by 4x4 vehicle, on foot or by canoe/boat.
