BENGUERRA ISLAND, SOUTHERN MOZAMBIQUE – PRESTIGE
Palm trees swayed by warm trade winds; miles of deserted white-sand beaches with turquoise waters navigated by slow-paced, traditional dhow sailboats; endless sunny days and a star-studded canopy at night – welcome to Azura, Mozambique’s first luxury eco-boutique retreat and already voted “top new beach hotel” in the Harpers Bazaar Travel Guide.
Built entirely by hand and in partnership with the local community, Azura has 17 luxury villas, each with a private infinity-edge pool. The villas’ style is a clever fusion of indoor and outdoor living space and beneath their thatched jekka roofs are all the gilt-edged comforts you would expect from a luxury boutique resort. Contemporary designs merge with African chic, hand-carved traditional Mozambican furnishings and artwork.
The resort has 2 Beach Villas, 3 Luxury beach Villas (100 m2) and 10 Infinity Beach Villas (110 m2) plus Villa Amizade, which is 2 bedroom en-suite villa located at the western end of the property and offering more than 185 m2 under roof. The Villa is perfect for families or a couple requiring more of a private residence feel, and represents excellent value when occupied by 4 people.
Finally there is the Presidential Villa at Azura which is one of the most luxurious private residences to be found anywhere in the Indian Ocean. It has two en suite bedrooms, a third staff bedroom, indoor and outdoor bathrooms, a sitting room with fireplace, dining area with ‘wine bar’, and huge infinity pool spanning the front of the villa. It is located just footsteps from the beach at the end of the property, to ensure maximum privacy, and has uninterrupted panoramic views to Bazaruto Island and the Indian Ocean beyond.
Azura’s African Spa signature treatments draw on local island ingredients and Mozambican traditions. We recommend the perfect tanning preparation – a ground coconut or diamond dust body scrub followed by a head-to-toe slathering of natural body butters finished off with a gentle, warm Marula oil massage.
Other activities include swimming, sailing, snorkelLing, scuba diving, big-game fishing, saltwater fly-fishing, kayaking, island drives, cultural encounters, beach picnics and star-gazing.
Azura is known for its extensive wine cellar and fine dining experience. With unsurpassed levels of cuisine, excellent service and a vast range of activities and experiences, Azura is the perfect island escape.
