Kafue, Zambia – DELUXE
In the midst of Zambia’s most important wetlands and wildlife paradise, enjoy a superior safari thanks to Shumba’s great emphasis on the ‘guided’ experience. You’ll be led by qualified, enthusiastic people with in-depth knowledge of the area and it’s amazing and prolific plains games, predators and bird.
Located in one of the largest National Parks in Africa situated in the centre of the Busanga Plains, the 22,500 square kilometres, Kafue National Park is fed by three rivers, the Lufupa in the north-west and the Lunga and Kafue in the north-east and has the largest mammal species diversity in Zambia due to an interesting habitat mix which includes miombo woodland and seasonal open grassy areas called dambos. The camp is named after the prides of lion that can be seen in the area as ‘shumba’ means lion.
The Busanga Plains are home to hundreds of red lechwe, puku, roan and oribi. You will also be seeing sighting of lion, buffalo, hippo, zebra and crocodile and slightly more unusual sightings of; sable, serval, wild dog, sitatunga and the wattled crane. These can be enjoyed through the different gaming activities the camp will be taking you on.
With six spacious luxurious safari tents, raised on platforms for breathtaking views of the surrounding plains, the large spacious rooms all have en-suite facilities, with an indoor and outdoor shower.
The dining and bar area is similarly elevated to offer breathtaking vistas as guests relax in the shade of enormous trees. For an authentic bush camp ambience many of the meals are prepared and cooked before the guests for that extra special experience.
In celebration of the Zambian roots of traditional foot safaris, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to scout in and around the plains on ground level, close to the action. Morning game drives are available too, while night drives create a new dimension of excitement with many nocturnal wonders. Specialist birding drives are also available.
