Sabinyo Silverback lodge is situated in north-western Rwanda in an undulating area of eleven hectares with sensational views towards the Parc National des Volcans and its 5 volcanoes, comprising part of the Virunga Volcano range. The rainforests of the Virunga Volcanoes are the last refuge of the Mountain Gorilla and guests of Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge trek to view seven habituated families of gorilla with up to thirty-five gorillas per family group.

The lodge is conveniently located twenty minutes from the park gates, the starting point to gorilla trekking. Five cottages, two suites and one family suite are situated in the folds of the forest-clad hills. All cottages and suites have en-suite bathrooms, dressing rooms and fireplaces. Large windows maximize rainforest-views. The main lodge comprises a library, large sitting rooms and dining rooms with baronial fireplaces. Patios afford alfresco dining and forest-view sundowner opportunities.

Activities include: gorilla trekking and trekking to see the rare Golden Monkeys, mysterious rainforests and unique bird-life; visits to the Musanze Lawa Flows and the Lakes of Burera, Ruhondo and Karago or the majestic Lake Kivu; and exploring Ruhengeri, a bustling Rwandese market town. Guests also have the opportunity to visit social-economic and conservation projects run by SACOLA, the community trust that owns Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge.

Gorilla trekking is a year-round experience, however, due to the high demand for permits it is advisable to book and pre-pay six months in advance for permits.

Rwandair Express and Kenya Airways fly daily between Kigali and Nairobi; the flight is one hour & fifteen minutes. The flight is followed by an easy two-hour drive to the lodge from Kigali, through Rwanda’s fabled ‘Thousand Hills’.
