MADIKWE GAME RESERVE – PRESTIGE
Royal Madikwe is an ultra-luxurious, safari lodge that can be booked on an individual basis or as an exclusive-use lodge. Although the property can accommodate 16 guests they have a policy of only ever hosting a maximum of just ten guests at any one time.
Both the Royal Suite and the Family Suite can accommodate up to four guests and are perfect for families, with the three Luxury Double Suites and one Luxury Twin Suite each accommodating two guests. Suites feature both indoor and outdoor showers, a large fireplace and an elevated sundeck with a hot tub or private plunge pool. The Family Suite can accommodate 2 adults and 4 young children in adjacent rooms and is located on the second level of the Main Clubhouse area. This suite is ideal for parents with young children but note that the Family Suite does not have a private deck and plunge pool, but these are available at the main Clubhouse.
The lodge is in the 76,500 hectare Madikwe Game Reserve, in South Africa’s malaria-free North West Province. Madikwe Game Reserve is easily reached by a one-hour daily, scheduled flight from Johannesburg, or a three-and-a-half-hour road transfer.
Madikwe is home to the “Super-7”, that is Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard as well as the endangered Cheetah and Wild Dog. Due to Royal Madikwe’s exclusivity, all game activities are arranged around guests’ wishes. Dusk and dawn game drives in open vehicles and bush walks are on offer daily. A celestial safari, photographic safari, rangers skills training, traditional dancing and massages are all available and by prior arrangement.
Royal Madikwe welcomes children of all ages, but note that children under twelve are permitted on game drives at the discretion of the lodge’s rangers. For safety reasons, those under 13 are not permitted on bush walks. Dedicated kids’ activities include African beading, bush baking and identifying animal tracks.
Royal Madikwe is a South African member of Fair Trade in Tourism and 20% of the lodge’s profit is reinvested into local community projects.
