MADIKWE GAME RESERVE – PRESTIGE
Madikwe Game Reserve is 75,000 hectares of malaria free wilderness. It is home to lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, wild dog and cheetah as well as a large number of plains game and over 360 species of bird and is famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise, which involved the introduction of more than 10,000 animals. Due to Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats, the region is host to an incredible diversity of species from its ecosystems. Geographically the region has enormous volcanic intrusions known as Inselbergs, wide open plains and the riverine environment along the Marico River.
The region is also imbued in history and has seen the passage of Mzilikazi and a range of explorers, traders, hunters and missionaries including David Livingstone, Sir Cornwallis Harris and the famous South African author, Herman Charles Bosman.
Mateya Safari Lodge is, without doubt, one of the finest lodges in the Reserve and consists of five individually designed luxury air-conditioned thatched suites. Each suite blends with its natural surroundings and offers uninterrupted views of the waterhole and plains. The en-suite bathrooms are complete with secluded open-air showers and invite you to luxuriate in a truly sensual setting.
Accompanied by experienced rangers and trackers, guests venture on game drives in custom-built 4×4 vehicles, or enjoy guided walking safaris through the reserve with each adventure planned around guest interests, resulting in the fulfilment of their ideal safari experience. Return from safari to a balance of sophistication and comfort, in total privacy and harmony with nature.
Relax lying under the shade of your natural window sala deck, immerse yourself in the cool water of your own rim-flow pool or enjoy fine dining in a variety of wonderful locations. Mateya also has a dedicated health therapist and offers a good range of pleasurable and rejuvenating body treatments.
