PRIVATE GAME RESERVE, WATERBERG, LIMPOPO PROVINCE – DELUXE
The sister bush homes of Ant’s Nest and Ant’s Hill are located within their own private game reserves in the renowned Waterberg region of South Africa’s Limpopo province. A malaria-free region, smothered in the footprints of Africa’s most sought-after wildlife. World famous as one of the continents most incredible horse riding destinations, the Ant Collection provides a 60-strong stud of horses, one of the finest ways to explore the wild local landscape.
The reserve is 400 square kilometres of wilderness. Look out for the highly-endangered black rhino, or wild dog, white rhino, leopard and a wide variety of indigenous antelope. The reserve holds some of the regions most spectacular bushman paintings, which survive in a number of the park’s secret Iron Age sites.
Ant’s Hill stands proudly at the cusp of an amazing old cliff-top, offering incredible views across the Waterberg. The propetry features a Standard Room, a Deluxe Room and a Superior Deluxe Room, as well as a two-bedroom Family Cottage and a two-bedroom Superior Cottage. Roll across the seven foot wide, four-poster bed into the sunken baths, or waterfall showers. The intimate heated swimming pool is hidden among local boulders, and cascades nonchalantly over the lip of the gorge, bringing a sense of power amongst privacy. A spacious veranda provides the perfect place to take breakfast, or to enjoy a well-earned sundowner. Ant’s Hill caters for a maximum of 16 guests and can be booked non-exclusively or exclusively for one party.
Alternatively, the original homestead of the reserve, the Ant’s Nest provides a classic retreat. Crafted from local timbers and stone, and furnished with local fabrics and artwork the Ant’s Nest is a warm, and welcoming abode in the heart of northern South Africa. Their are 3 Standard Rooms and 3 Deluxe Rooms, all with en-suite facilities and the lodge can accommodate a maximum of twelve guests. A fifteen-foot swimming pool serves as a welcome retreat from the midday sun, or an evening soak.
The true spirit of the region is best experienced at the reserve’s Bush Camp, nestled within the reserve. “Lookout Camp” is strategically located high up on a ridge with spectacular spreading views across the reserve. The camp is tented, situated on wooden platforms, and despite there being no electricity, hot showers and tasty meals are provided. It the perfect for those who would like to explore the rugged and challenging wilderness of Africa on foot, guided by knowledgeable and experienced guides.
Following days of game drives in open 4-wheel drives vehicles, horseback safaris, or long hikes in the wild, rugged landscapes relax around a crackling bush fire where you can enjoy a home-cooked, three-course evening meal, served with crisp, South African estate wines.
