Situated on the northern edge of the Laikipia plateau, Ol Malo is nestled into a rugged escarpment looking out across the time-honoured lands of Kenya’s Northern Frontier District. An ancient land inhabited by wildlife and peoples of a time long ago, undisturbed and living by the rhythm of nature, there, as part of this untamed and beautiful landscape is Ol Malo – Place of the Greater Kudu. Built, owned and managed by the Francombe family, with the help of the Samburu people, Ol Malo has established a reputation for first class service and tireless attention to detail. Rocky and Colin have been welcoming guests into their home for over 16 years. Their son Andrew has joined them at the helm and is proving to be particularly popular with families as his sense of adventure and endless energy makes every guest’s experience unique.

The accommodation is second to none and both Ol Malo Lodge and Ol Malo House are cleverly designed to allow different combinations of rooms according to guest’s requirements. Ol Malo Lodge consists of four beautifully designed individual en-suite cottages, each enjoying breathtaking views from their private verandas. Ol Malo House can be taken in a number of different combinations: Hippo Cottage is ideal for small families; the Crocodile Cottage is a spacious private suite ideal for couples or honeymooners; and the three extremely spacious, individually designed double rooms in the main house each have their own theme and design. Ol Malo House can also be taken on an exclusive use basis and will comfortably sleep 15 people.

Surrounding plains and valleys are teeming with game, providing regular sightings of wild dog and the elusive leopard is also seen daily from the hide by the water hole. At Ol Malo, guests are encouraged to experience Kenya beyond the game viewing vehicle; walking and watching herds of elephant, riding with the rare grevy zebra and reticulated giraffe or trekking through the ancient Samburu lands with camels. Fly-camping on the shores of the river, listening to the Francombe’s stories of Kenya’s bygone age, is an experience not to be missed.
