Jao Camp is situated on a distant island in the heart of Okavango Delta it provide the ultimate Delta water experience as well land activities to widen the sightings of the animals the island inhabits. The camp is set in an area when islands edging riverine forests meet immense dynamic floodplains.
The camp is perfect for wildlife lovers as it is most renowned for its superb game viewing. There is a vast amount of animals in which you will be seeing first hand. These include; prides of lion, herds of lechwe, elephant, buffalo, leopard, zebra, hippo, crocodile and a whole lot more. There is also a wide range of bird species for any bird lovers interested in travelling. These can also be seen within camp when looking out onto the stunning channel with the herds of wildlife along it.
Jao is involved in a lion monitoring project and its prides have been extensively studied in recent years, building up an intimate and invaluable knowledge of the big cats’ behaviour. Twitchers will not be disappointed either as they adjust their sights on avian residents such as Meyer’s Parrot, African Harrier Hawk, Black Egret, Coppery-tailed Coucal, Malachite Kingfisher, Hamerkop and Black Crake.
Jao has 9 luxurious tents that were each individually hand crafted, with an en-suite in each with glamorous old-style furnishings and an outdoor shower. Each suite also comes with a private sala (open-sided thatch structure) in which guests can relax in during their afternoon siesta here they can gaze into the stunning views down the Delta. Guest areas are within a two-storey building with a lounge, dining area and two private plunge pools. There is also a chance to dine under the stars with the availability of a boma.
The one-masseuse spa has an extensive massage menu with its spa pavilion providing sensational views of the floodplain. Spoilt for choice, Jao’s prolific game can be viewed year-round via a mokoro canoe safari, boat trip, fishing excursion, nature walk, or day and night game drive.
Children are welcome at the camp; however children under 6 cannot participate in games drives.
